Jamaica Is No Paradise

My heart is aching for Jamaica. Words cannot describe the hurt that the recent events unfolding in Jamaica have caused me. The tears have flowed, and I have asked myself the same question over and over again; what can I do to help? The more I asked myself the question, is the more I realized that I am a part of the problem.

Politics and Crime in Jamaica – The Effect of the Dudus Extradition

With regards to the recent debacle concerning the leadership of Jamaica, I am led to give my opinion on the situation which has recently unfolded. The extradition issue surrounding Christopher “Dudus” Coke has been a serious concern for many Jamaicans. I am not aware of the full details of the extradition request, however I do not believe that the Bruce Golding led administration has been forthright with the people of Jamaica.

Hope for Jamaica

I believe that a brighter future is ahead for Jamaica, but as the nation approaches its 49th birthday there are still many ills that need to be addressed. Jamaica’s problem lies in the mindset of the people.

Police and Race Relations in America

Recently the media have been dominated with reports of the incident which occurred between Dr. Henry Gates Jr. and members of the Cambridge Mass. Police Department. I am troubled by the way in which the argument has degenerated into such a divisive issue. No doubt, the issue of race and race relations in the U.S. has again resurfaced, and has been made more relevant due to an African-American commander-in-chief.

Black in America

CNN’s recent presentation of Black in America raised several issues confronting the African-American population. The documentary examined issues varying from single parent families, education, and interracial dating. The statics presented in the documentary did manage to detail some of the continued struggles faced by people of African decent in the United States.
